DC to take strict action on illegal sand mining

Udupi :The DC is all set to take up strict action against the illegal sand mining activities in the district.

Dr. Muddu Mohan, deputy commissioner of Udupi said the increasing illegal sand mining activities in the district should be stopped with immediate effect. He was addressing the district level meeting of sand mining committee at DC office, Rajathadri on Wednesday, May 7.

He directed his officials and geology department to raid and trace out illegal sand mining activities in the district from May 8.

The meeting was held after they received number of complaints regarding illegal mining activities.

He added that “strict action will be taken against who are involved in illegal sand mining. All support will be given to police department to tackle the issue”.This raid will be a coordinated efforts of all dept from mines and geology, police, revenue and Taluk Panchayath”.

The DC further added that 141 licenses are issued for sand mining in CRZ and non-CRZ areas in the district. He said the environment clearance certificate is mandatory for the license holders.
