Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju said the candidates who take part in job fairs should be given prior training on the techniques to face an interview.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Udyog Mela-2014’ followed by an awareness camp on self employment opportunities organized by District Administration here on January 29, Wednesday. Nearly 900 students participated in the job fair which is the biggest fair organised in the district till date.
The Deputy Commissioner further added that around 20 companies are here to provide maximum opportunity to the students in the Mela.
Briefing on the previous year’s job fair, the DC said around 450 aspirants had taken part in the job fair, of which 150 were selected.
He added that intellectual skills would be the most important characteristic and the employers always look into the best workforce with managerial skills besides better educational qualifications. He exhorted the candidates to develop good communication skills besides having good command over general knowledge. They should imbibe the qualities that support quick decision-making process, he said.
District Industrial Centre Joint Director P Nagesh who also spoke on the occasion, said the government was bringing out new industrial policy shortly to support those candidates who wish to venture into self employment. The government always encourages self employment, he said adding that there were various government schemes that offer financial and infrastructural assistance to the aspirants.
