Mangaluru: With the number of covid cases rising in the state, Dakshina Kannada DC Dr Rajendra K.V called for a press meet on Monday March 22 to announce the measures to be taken to control the second wave of covid.

He said that vaccination should be taken by everyone on priority. “Officials will have to implement awareness drive throughout the district, informing the people about covid appropriate behaviour, vaccination and testing for symptoms in patients,” he said.

DC stated that it is compulsory for bus operators, commuters and auto drivers to wear mask. He also informed that action will be taken against those who do not wear mask.

“Events and wedding halls owners will be called for meeting and religious programs will also be monitored,” he said.

He mentioned that restrictions will be implemented for various functions.

“Today the district administration conducted a surprise raid at a few shops and malls in the city. The administration observed that 70 to 80 per cent of people were not using masks or following Covid guidelines. Therefore, the administration, to prevent the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus, will hold an awareness drive in the entire district from tomorrow 10 am to 11 am,” he said.

He said that a virtual meeting will be held with Indian Medical Association, Private medical institutions and Karanataka Private Medical Establishments for the violation of covid-19 guidelines. DC also said that discussion will be made on cancellation of license, in case of the violation of the covid-19 guidelines in medical institutions and colleges found. The institutions will be shut if the norms are violated. If the patients come with symptoms of influenza the concerned medical institutions should hold covid-19 tests.

“I have written to the government seeking permission to rope the 23 SDRF personnel in containing the spread of covid-19, DC said.

He urged the people to follow the covid guidelines and stated that the people’s support is necessary to fight the second wave.
