Darryl Castelino commander from Kinnigoli dies in MI-17 the chopper that crashed

Mumbai/Mangalore: In an tragic crash of the Mi-17 V5 IAF chopper which was on a rescue mission in flood-affected Uttarakhand on Tuesday , has brought immense grief and pain to the family Darryl Castelino who was the wing commander of the ill-fated chopper.

IAF helicopter crashed in bad weather near Gaurikund in Uttarakhand during rescue operations ,all 20 members on board are dead . Among them, five were from Indian Air Force, including Darryl Castelino, six from ITBP and rest from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The Wing Commander basically Hails from Kinnigoli. His family later moved to Mumbai. Born on November 2, 1975, Darryl was a student of Holy Cross High School, Kurla (W), Mumbai.

Darryl was married to Jyothi and the couple have two children , son Ethan and daughter Angelina.

He was posted in Kolkata , at the time of the tragedy.

Darryl is survived by his family, that is finding it hard to belive the irrecoverable loss.

The others persons from IAF who lost their lives in the air crash were Flt Lt K Praveen, Flt Lt Tapan Kapoor, JWO AK Singh and Sgt Sudhakar Yadav. The chopper belonged to a unit from Barrackpore Air Force Station in West Bengal under the Eastern Air Command.
