Mangalore: A contractor along with his brother thrashed a daily wage labourer, alleging him of a theft on Wednesday May 28.

However the worker identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Barik stated that he is innocent and they have wrongly booked by the contractor named Sattar and his brother. He also said that Sattar intentionally made the Konaje police beat him.

Barik a resident of Harekala, had gone to the house of his sister in Kalpade near Amblamogaru. It is said that Sattar who stays in the neighbourhood took away Barik in his Omni car, saying that there was some work for him. As they reached Sevantigudde area, Sattar and his brother Asif reportedly assaulted Barik.

It is said that they threatened Barik and demanded to know whether he had committed a theft in their house. They then handed him over to the Konaje police. It is alleged that the sub-inspector and a constable there assaulted him with wooden sticks and iron rods forcing him to admit the theft.

Barik has alleged that he was assaulted in the presence of Sattar.
