Customs seize gold worth Rs 15 lakh at Airport

Mangaluru: The officers of Customs at Mangaluru International Airport on Tuesday seized five numbers of ten tola gold bars worth Rs 15 lakh from a passenger.

According to the press release issued by S. Rajarethinam, Assistant Commissioner of Customs (Airport), Mangaluru, Abdul Khader Kunhamoo (58), a resident of Kasargod was caught smuggling gold totally weighing 583.300 grams from Dubai. 

Kunhamoo concealed the gold under seat No. 23F of Jet Airways Flight No. 9W531 in which he had travelled from Dubai to Mangaluru.  

The passenger has been arrested and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mangalore on Tuesday for remand.  

Further investigation is under progress.
