Mangalore: Curtains were drawn to the centenary celebrations of St Sebastian Church, Bendore with the holding of a colourful function at the church ground on January 19, Sunday. A Eucharistic Mass held on the occasion was led by Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Bernard Moras.
















Addressing the gathering, he said, “The patron saint of this church St Sebastian lived for faith, thus let us strengthen our faith in god and encourage our children to live with faith.”
The Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the ceremony and also addressed the gathering about the celebrations and church.
Releasing the centenary memorial fund for the poor, Dr Veerappa Moily,Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas said that the church has contributed so much to the lives of people. The new health fund is a good step, he added.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo said that Bendore Church has contributed a lot to social and educational welfare and is financially strong and has given special attention to youngsters.
Bishop of Bellary Dr Henry D’Souza along with Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khadar addressed the gathering while Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Abhaychandra Jain released the centenary souvenir.
Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district, B Ramanath Rai, Bishop of Bellary Dr Henry D’Souza, state ministers U T Khadar, Abhaychandra Jain, Sr M Wilberta, Sr Linnette, Fr John Baptist, Fr Michael Santhumayor, Fr Ronald Walder, Laveen John were present on the dais.
