Create awareness against employing child labour : DC

Mangalore : Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim who is also the President of the District Child Labour Project Society, has  stressed the need for continued  awareness among the public against employing child labour and also to eradicate child labour and ensure them good education.

He was presiding over a meeting held at his office on Friday May 23 to discuss issues pertaining to prevention of child labour, their rescue and rehabilitation. Anandamurthi, District Labour Officer informed the meeting that  during the year 2013-14 a total of five child labourers working in hazardous as well as non-hazardous industries were rescued, sent to rehabilitation centres and enrolled to schools.

Those who employed them have been booked and a penalty of Rs 60,000 collected,he informed.

The meeting decided to observe World Anti Child Labour Practice Day on June 12.

Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, CWC Chairperson Asha Nayak,  Prajna Counselling Centre Director Hilda Rayappan and others were present.
