Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district has once again been classified as a “red zone” according to the COVID-19 map released by the state department of Health and Family Welfare.

It can be recalled that the district had only recently be reclassified as an “orange zone” after the number of active COVID-19 cases came down drastically as more people recovered.

After the number of positive cases started increasing, the latest case being reported from Boloor in Mangaluru city, the district was re-classified as a “red zone”.

Now, the state health department has reportedly revised the zones (red, orange and green) according to the new criteria.

The zones are classified based on the number of infections. Those districts which have reported COVID-19 infections in the past 14 days have been classified as “red zones”.

Districts which have not reported any new COVID-19 cases in the past 14 days, but have reported infections in the past 15 to 28 days as classified as “orange zones”. Those districts that have not reported a single positive COVID-19 case in the past 28 days have been classified as “green zones”.

Based on this criteria, the state now has 15 districts that have been classified as “red zones”, one of which is the Dakshina Kannada district. Three districts have been classified as “orange zones” and 12 are “green zones”.
