Court proceedings boycotted as lawyers protest Justice Patel’s transfer

Mangaluru: The district court proceedings remained suspended for a day today on October 4 as city lawyers staged a protest demanding revocation of transfer orders of Justice Jayant Patel, senior Karnataka high court judge.

Condemning the transfer of the judge, Mangaluru bar association said that the decision to transfer a judge serving at the high court, which is already facing shortage of judges has hit the entire legal fraternity. The association demanded immediate revocation of the order to ensure smooth functioning of the judiciary.

According to a press release of Mangaluru Bar Association the high court currently has only 27 judges while 82 judges should have been appointed.

Among those present were Mangaluru Bar Association president M R Ballal, vice-president Pushpalatha, general secretary Dinaker Shetty, treasurer Sujith Kumar.
