Kasargod: Around 50 kg of ganja that was being transported in a car was seized by the Kasargod police along with Rs 10,000 in cash on Wednesday April 30 at Kunil at Mogral Puttur.





A person arrested in this case has been identified as 25-year-old Joy Joseph, a resident of Idukki. However, his acccomplice Rojas from Kozhikode managed to flee from the clutches of the police.
The Kasargod police conducted the operation under the guidance of Narcotics Cell DySP Suresh Babu.
It is said when the highway police signalled the Swift car crossing the Shiriya Bridge and heading towards Kasargod, instead of stopping, the vehicle sped forth. It was given a chase and the Kasargod police intimated.
The drug peddlers on seeing the Kasargod police vehicle, reversed their car and fled, and were again chased by the police. In a bid to get away, the speeding car went out of control near Kunil and veered off towards the railway track and stopped after hitting against a boulder. Though Joy who was in the war was arrested, Rojas managed to flee.
On inspecting the car, the police found ganja packed in plastic bags. It is said that the ganja was being transported from Idukki to Kasargod. Kasargod station sub inspector T Uttamdas, Sunil Abraham, K Srijith, K Jyotish, Mahendran and Kamalakshan were part of the operation.
