Cops nab five inter-state thieves

Kasargod: Five inter-state thieves have been arrested by the Kasargod police from Kubanoor, Uppala near Kasargod on Wednesday October 22.

The arrested are identified as Abdul Azeez Sheikh (42) from Mannangui Uppala,Bhaskar Belchappada (63) and Mrathyunjaya (32) from Mumbai, Deenanath(59) from Kolkata and Jayasheela(36) from Karkala.

In a joint police operation led by Dy SP T P Rajith, the gang was nabbed, just before they would make an attempt to steal a finance company at Anekallu on Kerala and Karnataka border.

The police have seized a revolver, live bullets, three swords, an iron rod, plastic wire, a vehicle and two fake number plates from the gang.

According to the police Bhaskar was their leader of the gang that had been staying in a rented house at Kubanoor for the last nine months. They also had a Sumo car with two fake number plate owning Karnataka and Maharashtra registration.

The vehicle led to the gang’s arrest, as the local figured out that the same vehicle was used with two numbers. Feeling suspicious about the situation, the local informed the police.

Police spied the gang for a few days, and learnt their on-goings, following to their arrest.

On Monday the police conducted the operation and arrested four from the gang while the fifth managed to escape. The police succeeded in arresting the fifth the next day.

Uppala Mannangui resident Abdul Azeez had arranged the rented house for the gang. Abdul Azeez had met Bhaskar when he was in Maharastra jail. The remaining members of the gang also had spent prison terms in Mumbai and Kolkata.

Intelligence inspector C B Thomas, Kumble station circle inspector K P Suresh Babu, Sub Inspector K V Gangadharan, Sineesh Siriak, Srijeet, Jayaprakash, Pradeep Kumar Chavara, Sunil Abraham were also a part of the operation.
