Mangaluru: The Mangaluru city police, on Saturday, December 21, detained Rajya Sabha member from Kerala and CPI leader Binoy Viswam and six others for staging a protest near the Gandhi statue in Lalbagh.

They had organised an anti-CAA protest despite the prohibitory orders. The group was shouting the slogan “Go back CM” here, in response to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s visit to the city.

Binoy and the other protesters also demanded that the Keralites in the city be treated properly.

It can be recalled that a curfew was imposed on the city after anti-CAA protests turned violent in Mangaluru on Thursday. Two protesters were killed in police firing, sparking further outrage.
