Kasargod: The assistant sub-inspector (ASI) who faces charges of sexual assault on a young woman, was found dead here on Tuesday December 2.

Earlier, a 25-year old woman from Adoor had reportedly filed a complaint of sexual assault on ASI Sugunan (52). Days after the complaint, the assistant sub-inspector killed himself, it’s learnt.

According to  reports, on Tuesday morning,  the assistant sub-inspector left from home for his usual walk, but did not return. His family members who grew anxious began searching for him, and soon his body was found hanging from a tree near the house.

As per the complaint filed by the woman, she stated that she was sexually assaulted by Sugunan five months ago. However, she filed a complaint only after she found that she was pregnant.

Following the complaint, he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody for two weeks and was later out on bail. Besides, he was suspended from the duty.

The complaint states that Sugunan, who obtained the woman’s cell phone number when she had come to file a complaint on a fraud case, contacted her. Later, Sugunan also took her to a lodge in Subramanya and allegedly sexually assaulted her. The sexual attack was committed in June, 2014, states the complaint.
