Congress wins Kasargod Muncipal Council ward 36 by-elections

Mangaluru: Congress emerged victorious in the by-elections held for ward 36 of Kasargod Muncipal Council on Tuesday July 18. The counting of votes was done on Wedsneday, July 19 in Kasargod Town Muncipal Hall.

Congress candidate S Rehana grabbed the ward from the folds of BJP by defeating opponent Sarala by a margin of 84 votes.

Rehana secured 625 votes while Sarala secured 541 votes. G Bindu of CPI(M) slipped into third position securing 90 votes .

The total polling was 77.53 percentage. Out of 1620 voters, 1256 persons ie 709 women and 547 men cast their franchise.

The election was necessitated following the death of BJP Corporater Prema.

Earlier Prema of BJP had won the election with a margin of 73 votes against Biwina of Congress. Prema had secured 638 and Biwina had secured 565 votes. LDF supported candidate had secured 30 votes.
