Mangaluru: Condemning the continued attack on Dalits and also coming down heavily on the anti-Dalit policies of the Sangha Parivar, the Mangaluru city south assembly constituency, Mangaluru south and north block congress committee jointly organised a protest on August 8. The protest began with a rally from Ambedkar’s statue outside Town Hall to DC’s office.

Addressing the protesters, MLC Motamma said that the Sangha Parivar goons have been attacking the Dalits in the name of safeguarding cattle.

“Who gave you the right to attack the Dalits,” she questioned adding that Prime Minister Modi’s recent statement that fake Gaurakshaks are attacking the Dalits has come as huge embarrassment to the Sangha Parivar.

“The Dalits are involved in making leather articles and these people who are struggling to make their both ends meet are being attacked, even as the fact is that everyone wants to flaunt those leather products made by the Dalits,” she said warning that the way people protested in Gujarat by piling the corpses of cows, the episode may be staged in Karnataka soon.

MLA J R Lobo said that over the last six months the attacks on Dalits is on the rise across the country.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, MUDA chairman Kodijal Ibrahim, Mayor Harinath, Congress leaders Mithun Rai, P V Mohan and others were present.
