Bangalore : The Congress which on April 15, Monday, released its third list of seven candidates for the upcoming assembly polls, has confirmed a ticket to Shakuntala Shetty, former MLA to contest from Puttur.
Though it was earlier widely believed that Shaku would be the Congress candidate from Puttur, still speculations were rife if the party was in two minds more so because of resentment among workers of a section of the party who questioned why a new entrant should be given a ticket.
Shakuntala who had won from Puttur in the 2004 Assembly elections, had later lost the 2008 elections when she contested as a rebel BJP candidate after BJP denied her a ticket. Shaku remained away from politics after her defeat in the elections. Though she later knocked at the doors of the KJP and the JD(S), she ultimately decided to join the Congress.
The Congress third list has given former minister CM Ibrahim a ticket from Bhadravathi constituency.
