Mangalore: Congress President Sonia Gandhi  has accused the ruling BJP in the state  of betraying the mandate of the people of Karnataka.

Addressing a public meeting at the Nehru Maidan in Mangalore on April 27, Saturday as part of the election campaign of the Congress, Sonia said the BJP has failed to make good use of the opportunity provided to rule the state. The party has proved its inefficiency in ruling, she further observed.

Stating that it was always a pleasure to visit the beautiful city of Mangalore, she at the same time regretted that the reputation of the city has been harmed due to some incidents with communal overtones.

She also launched a tirade against the BJP government and charged that there was a complete breakdown of the law and order scenario.

Pointing out that there was once a time when investors vied with each other to invest in Karnataka, she said  the situation had drastically changed now. Industries are leaving the state which is marred by corruption, she said and added this development has deprived youths of jobs.

She called upon the people to vote for the party which provides them good job, security and protection and alleged the BJP had always landed the lay man in trouble. She said the Congress aims at restoring the image of Karnataka as a bright state of India. A stable government is the need of the hour in Karnataka, she further said.

KPCC President Parameshwar welcomed the gathering.  He was also critical of the BJP government and said the government which had promised rice at Rs 2 per kg had failed to keep up its promise. He said the Congress if voted to power will offer 30 kg rice at Rs one per kg.

AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes, Congress leader Ambika Soni, Congress General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry and former union minister B Janardhan Poojary were  among others present.
