Mangaluru: The ground-breaking ceremony of 7 main roads in the city will be performed by District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai and Urban Development minister Vinaykumar Sorake on July 27, said Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Jacintha Alfred here at a press meet on Friday.
The concretisation of the Kuntikana-Kavoor road, Bondel-Pachanady road, Malady Court road, Ladyhill-Koragajjana Gudi road, Durga Mahal-Bokkapattna road, Subhashnagar-Mangaladevi road and Mallikatta-Kadri temple road will be undertaken by the Mangaluru City Corporation with the help of the CM’s fund for urban development, she said.
While addressing the media, Mayor Jacintha Alfred said that the renovation work of Town hall will be completed by the end of November. A temporary tender has been called for Acoustic Paneling, Stage screen, sound and light system, false ceiling and catwalk work at the estimated cost of Rs 98 lakhs. Also, seating facility at the cost of Rs 60 lakhs have been given to two contractors. Tender for installing of AC and new cable and generator connection will be called today and the estimated cost of the work is Rs 49 lakhs.
The Granite Flooring green room, VIP room and other works are already under progress. Also DPR has been prepared for the development of Central market, Kankanady market, Kadri market, Surathkal market, Alake market, Kavoor market and Kulshekar-Kaikamba.
Various issues like water supply, drainage problem, footpath issue was raised on the occasion by the media. While answering the question as to when the work of the Pumpwell Bustand project will be started, one of the officials said that two agencies have come forward and they will be demonstrating their ideas tomorrow. After that further work will be completed.
Protest in front of Mayor Office
Meanwhile, few residents from Jalligudde accompanied by CITU secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal, entered MCC office and protested in front of the Mayor’s Office in connection with the problem of water shortage in ward number 53 Jayanagar, Bajal area. They alleged that their corporator is not listening to their problems. There has been no water supply from the last 15 days, they said.
Juliana Fernandes, speaking to News karnataka said, “We have had no water from last 15 days. Only road side houses got the water provided in tankers not those who reside in the interior places”.
The Mayor assured them that by today evening work undertaken would be completed and water will be supplied through tankers. Also, sintex water tanks will be kept temporarily in Jayanagar and water will be provided through the same. “Due to some technical reasons, the work has been delayed in fixing the pipeline work. The work of changing the pipeline at the railway gate for the smooth flow of water in the area will be completed by today evening’, she added.
The protesters put an end to the demonstration after receiving assurance from the Mayor.
