Comprehensive assessment camp for disabled persons on Jan 24

Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim has informed that a one-day comprehensive assessment camp for patients with disabilities will be held at the artificial limb centre of District Wenlock Hospital on January 24 in order to  provide aids or equipment to the needy among them.

The Deputy Commissioner who addressed a press meet on January 22, Wednesday said the  Southern Regional Centre of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India) will organise the camp. He said 12 officers from New Delhi, Secunderabad and Chennai who will do the assessment work at the camp.

He also said that the aids and equipment worth Rs 15 lakh will be distributed to beneficiaries through their respective gram panchayats in the coming two months. Through the camp, the beneficiaries will be distributed with artificial limbs, wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids, Braille slates, callipers for polio-afflicted patients, artificial knee joints and assistive canes for the blind or partially blind.

Gertrude Veigas, DK Deputy Director of Women and Child Development was also present and addressed the press meet.
