Mangaluru: A massive protest planned by the BJP Mahila Morcha on July 13 has hit a roadblock with the city police commissioner denying permission for the same.
Earlier in the day, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Sulochana G K Bhat had informed that they had got green signal from the police to hold a protest, which was supposed to be attended by BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa, here at Nehru Maidan on July 13.
The members had planned a protest against the government’s move to arrest Hindu leaders by framing them in stone pelting cases that occurred during RSS worker Sharath’s funeral procession.
Addressing press persons, Bhat said that the law and order situation in the district had utterly collapsed and the administration was trying to oppress the voices of Hindu leaders by raiding their houses at mid night apart from framing them in cases of communal violence. It is very painful that the police are denying permit to hold a protest which is a constitutional right of a citizen.
“We had obtained necessary permissions to hold the protest on Tuesday. However, the police Commissioner has now denied the same citing law and order situation and the tense situation prevailing in the district,” she said adding that the commissioner informed that miscreants would be waiting to target their protest, which may fuel further tension in the district.
Former MLC & BJP leader Monappa Bhandary said that BSY would be coming to the city tomorrow and necessary permissions were sought from the police department to hold the protest. “Earlier we had planned to hold the protest in front of DC office, however since we didn’t get permission for the same, the venue was changed to Nehru Maidan,” he said.
The programme has been postponed three times due to denial of permission.
BJP South President Vedhavyasa Kamath, DK Mahila Morcha president Pooja Pai and others were present.
