Karkala: In an episode rare to be seen, a councillor exhibited greatest of dedication to the role that has been given to him by the people in democracy.

Sunil Kuntaplady, BJP’s two time councilor of Karkala Town Municipal Council has been sick over the last two months. During this period of illness, not only was he kept in ICU of KMC Hospital, but he had also undergone several surgeries.

On Thursday, an evidently week and feeble Sunil turned up at the general body meeting of the Council, leaving everyone shocked.

The reason being the rule that allows cancellation of membership if the elected representative remains absent for three consecutive meetings.

Despite ill-health Sunil, with the help of his family members attended the meeting and sat through. His condition was heart wrenching. Since he was not in the position to even sign the attendance register, he ended up putting his thumb impression.

Even in this condition, Sunil made all attempts possible to save his membership, because he values the responsibility that has been given to him by the people, said his near and dear ones. Many eyes had even turned damp seeing the commitment of the man who is already known for actively responding to people’s woes.

Meanwhile, the opposition too held up humanity in the same hall. Senior leader and leader of the opposition Ashfaq Ahmed while questioning as to who had pressurised Sunil to take the pain of coming to the council to save his membership, said that the opposition too has humanity and it understands the pain and the situation that Sunil is wading through.

“Nobody can question his position and there is no question of cancellation of his membership,” Ahmed declared in the house.
