Kasargod : A person who was absconding after murdering a college student  at Thalassery, has been apprehended in Kuwait, almost nine years after the murder.

The arrested man  is Mohammad Afzal (34) of Tellichery. He has been charged with murdering  Safana, a first year degree student of Christ College, Thalassery on January 23, 2004, after she  turned down his  demand to love him. Mohammad had reportedly killed Safana when she was returning home from college.

Though he was arrested the very next day of the murder, he had escaped after he was granted conditional bail. It is said  he had fled to Kuwait  from Bangalore using a passport in the name of one Taj Pasha Khan. In Kuwait he was working for a company along with his  brother-in-law.

In September 2009, police who were searching for Mohammad had issued a lookout notice. Even the Interpol released a warrant for his arrest. He was subsequently arrested  at Kuwait following a tip off.
