Mangaluru: First Investigation Report (FIR) will be filed against jurisdictional Co-operative bank Mangers in farmer suicide cases due to bad debts, warned Karnataka Pradesh Congress President (KPCC) Kisan cell President Sachin Meega.
Addressing a press conference in Mangaluru, Sachin Meega said, State Chief Minister has agreed to waive 50per ccent of loan amount in case the central government manages to bear the balance 50 per cent burden.
In such a scenario state MPs must mount pressure on the Prime Minister for the benefit of farmers, he added. Meega also said that central government headed by Modi has waived loans of businessmen amounting to Rs 1.14 lakh crores. When farmers are facing drought, the PM is busy pleasing rich businessmen, Meega alleged.
A special leave petition has been submitted in the Supreme Court seeking implementation of Gorakh Singh committee report to give relief to Areca growers suffering from crop losses on account of various plant diseases. Banks not waiving areca growers loans amounts to violation of SC guidelines, Meega noted.
He demanded Puttur, Sullia and Belthangadi taluks to be declared drought-hit like Bantwal taluk. He said, drinking water projects like Yettinahole have little benefit and said his pleas on afforestation in districts of Kolar, Bidar and Gulbarga have fallen on deaf ears.
