Mangaluru: Padma Shri awardee, well-known saxophonist Kadri Goplanath laid the foundation stone for two toilets in a 98-year-old higher primary school in Sandpit, Bengare here on September 27.
Later, speaking to Newskarnataka, Gopalnath said, “On September 9, I have received a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to contribute towards the ‘Swachatha Hi Seva’ mission under the Swachh Bharath Abiyan campaign of the government. Hence taking it as my responsibility to join the campaign for clean India, I have decided to construct two toilets at the oldest school in Bengare.”
There are 60 students pursuing their education this school. The two toilets will be constructed at a cost of Rs 80,000.
It may be recalled that Kadri Gopalnath, along with his team had contributed Rs 6.5 Lakh towards Kargil Relief Fund through Tamil Nadu government when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister.
