Mangaluru: MLA, Mangaluru South and Chief Convenor of the civic felicitation committee J R Lobo said on Monday that the Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza will be felicitated on his birthday, June 21 by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).
Speaking to mediapersons at the Bishop’s House, Lobo said that Mayor Harinath would be felicitating the Bishop.
“The Bishop has rendered selfless service in the field of education and health care. We would like to remind people through this felicitation that anyone who renders selfless service would be honoured. A committee of dignitaries from all religions has decided to hold the felicitation on June 21,” he said.
“A procession will bring the Bishop to Town Hall on June 21. I request everyone to be present there by 3:15 pm. The Bishop will be felicitated a nine paces including Sullia, Bantwal, Bajpe, and Kasaragod till December 2016,” he added.
The convener of the felicitation and chairman of Alva’s foundation Dr Mohan Alva said that Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza has served as a Bishop for 20 years and as a priest for 50 years to people of all religions.
The pro-chancellor of Nitte University Dr Shantharam Shetty will be rendering the felicitation address on June 21. The Bishop of Bengaluru Arch diocese Dr Bernard Moras, Jitakanandaji of Ramakrishna Math, Quazi of Dakshina Kannada Twaka Ahmed Masliyar will be present along with other dignitaries.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, secretary of the felicitation committee M P Noronha, president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino, former mayor of MCC Jacintha Alfred, Fr J B Crasta and others were present.
