City pays homage to URA; demand ban of saffron groups

Mangalore: DK unit congress, Youth congress and National Students Union of India paid their condolences to the iconic kannada writer UR Ananthamurthy here today.

They condemned the celebration of UR Ananthamurthy’s sad demise by hindu extremists. They also protested at Clock tower near Town hall.

MLC Ivan dsouza commenting on the celebrations by the hindu extremists, said that its an insult to the country as well as renowned writer of the century. These miscreants should be exiled from the district and a case should be registered against those who commit such things.

Congress district committee member K Taranath Shetty demanded Goonda act against those who commit disrespectful acts and to ban saffron groups such as Bajrang Dal.

Youth congress president urged stern action against those activists who are black marks for the entire district and asked apology from them for the cowardly act.

On minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the iconic writer. Later they burnt the effigy symbolizing saffron group.

NSUI district president Ashith Pereira, Congress members Ibrahim Kodichal and others were present.
