Mangalore : Renny DSouza, Assistant Director of ChildLine has informed that the ChildLine has been constantly engaged in the task of sensitizing the student community on Child Rights by visiting various educational institutions.
Speaking to reporters at Roshni Nilaya on September 30, Monday, he said during the past one year period the ChildLine 1098 has received around 2246 calls and has joined hands in protecting the children who are in need of help. We have also been successful in busting several cases with the help of media, he said adding around 171 cases have also been registered last year.
He further stated that the ChildLine played a very important role in bringing to light the case of gang rape of a minor girl at the Mangalore Central Railway station three years ago.
Cases exposed by Child Line : Renny D’Souza also gave details of the various cases exposed by Child Line including the child trafficking racket at Bajal, rescuing of a child labourer from the house of a government employee couple at BC Road, rescuing child beggars, child marriage cases, the sexual harassment case of a girl by a Madrasa teacher at Boliyar, the case wherein a hostel warden made the inmates due gardening works of his residence, tracing a missing boy from Suratkal etc.
He said in order to develop a close bondage with the public, Child Line has organised Thereda Mane programme in Mangalore city limits and plans to hold awareness programmes on RTE, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act etc. He said Child Line can be contacted through the numbers 1098 or 0824-2437795.
