Child worker rescued in Udupi

Udupi: A minor about the age of 13 was rescued from his workplace, on the July 6th afternoon here in Udupi.

The child rescued is identified as Kumar Nagaraj hailing from Shimoga. It is said that the child left his school and studies due to poverty and illness of his mother.

The district labour department  was notified about this child seen working at a milk booth owned by the person called Oswald Dsouza. It is notable that the milk booth is situated close to the Manipal DC office.

As per the department rules, if the child is found to be below 13 years of age he will be handed over to the residential school and since the boy is aged 13, he will be sent to the special residential school for child labourers in Keddur, Koteshwar.

It has been found that 15-20 children have been found begging throughout the town. These children are believed to have come from outside the state.

The raid was conducted under the guidence of Ravi Kumar R and Ramachandra S, labour inspectors and Anti-child labour association director Prabhakar Acharya.
