Moodbidri : It has been learnt that the Union Government has returned the Under Ground Drainage Project proposal worth Rs 52 crores for Moodbidri on the grounds that the proposal was sent during the last month of the financial year and that financial resources could not be mobilised for the same.

Informing this at the TMC meeting here, Simon Lobo, Assistant Engineer of the Karnataka Water Supply and Underground Drainage Board, said that the TMC now need to resolve to send the proposal to the State Government.
The meeting held under the presidentship of TMC Chairperson Supriya D Shetty had elaborate discussions on the issue. When there was a proposal to have a treatment plant at Nagarakatte the same was opposed by Councillor Prema Salian on the grounds that the TMC was dumping various projects in Nagarakatte where already land has been let for a bye-pass project. Though pipelines can pass through the area, setting up the plant is not acceptable, she said.
Another councillor Lakshman Poojary referred to a media report that a councillor had raised an unauthorised multi-storied construction. He also questioned why a door number was issued even when it was an illegal construction. Poojary further said such incidents had landed councillors in embarrassment.
TMC Engineer Padmanabha said that the erstwhile chief officer who had once issued door number had later cancelled it.
The meeting resolved to permit the use of the old TMC building to accommodate a Farmers Contact Centre and MUDA office.
Parking woes; special meet on July 19: It was further resolved to hold a special meeting on July 19 to discuss the parking issues and traffic problems in the town. When Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar gave information on the parking problem, several councillors requested that the Hanuman Temple Road, Masjid Road and the approach road to bus stand be made one-way.
Women councillors Harinakshi and Prema Salian demanded that funds be equitably distributed to all wards for developmental works.
