Newskarnataka – Beltangady
Beltangady: The Sowjanya rape and murder case which would have almost faded into oblivion due to apathy of the local police and the voluntary transfers sought by CID officials is once again gaining pace in the investigation.

The three-member team from Chennai visited Sowjanya’s parents and also the crime spot at Pangala near Dharmasthala. It is learnt that after an adverse fight of several organisation to have a CBI probe in the case the team will finally begin a detailed investigation from Monday March 24.
The government had first handed over the case to CID and later handed over the case to the CBI in November 2013 as Beltangady MLA Vasant Bangera raised the issue of seeking justice to Sowjanya case during the assembly session. Besides, he submitted a memorandum to home minister T J George for a thorough investigation. He has also mentioned about the callousness of local police in probing the case.
Even after the state government announced CBI inquiry into the case, the protests continued as the probe did not begin as expected.
