Mangalore :  A 407 tempo which was smuggling as many as 32 cattle was seized by the police along with the animals at Bejai in the city on Saturday July 12 morning. The cattle smuggling could be detected as the  tempo which was over speeding  caused a series of accidents by hitting an autorickshaw, a car and an electric pole.

Sources said the cattle smuggling vehicle sped forth even after ramming against an autorickshaw near the KSRTC. Later, it hit a Ford Figo car  before coming to an abrupt halt after hitting an electric pole.

Though public who gathered around tried to trap those in the Tempo, a total of six of them including some bike riders who were escorts, managed to  give them a slip.

It is learnt the vehicles were crammed inside the vehicle leaving some of the animals in a critical state.
