Ullal : The Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple at Kumpala in Ullal has been burgled. Thieves who broke into the temple on the night of February 12, Wednesday have stolen jewellery worth Rs 3 lakhs apart from a cash of over Rs 85,000 kept in the temple for Shivaratri expenses.











The silver mask of Lord Eshwar, Rudrakshi Mala, the silver prabhavalis, karimani chain and another gold chain all valuing over Rs 3 lakh have been burgled.
Even the Rs 85000 cash kept in the counter of the temple as well as cash in three offering boxes have been stolen. The theft came to light at around 5 am when the temple priest Bhavani Shanker arrived for the pooja.
The suspicion is that the thieves entered the temple by dislodging the roofing which they climbed from the wall of the Anna Chatra building, the works of which are under progress nearby.
Ullal police have registered a case and are investigating. Even sniffer squad and finger print experts are at the spot.
BJP leaders who were on a visit to Mogaveerapatna in Ullal rushed to the temple on gathering information about the burglary. They urged the police to immediately arrest the thieves. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Monappa Bhandari, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLCs, District BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak, former ministers Krishna Palemar and Nagaraj Shetty were among those who visited the temple.
