Carmelites celebrate ‘Carmel Day’

Mangalore, Dec 15: The  Carmelites celebrated ‘Carmel Day’ at Infant Jesus Shrine Carmel Hill, on Saturday December 14. The fifth anniversary of the Konkani magazine ‘Namaan Balok Jezu’ was also celebrated to coincide with the occasion.

Fr Pius James D’ Souza, Superior St Joseph Monastery , welcomed the gathering, and said “ We are happy to celebrate ‘Carmel Day’ with devotees  who come here from different places to pray.”

C G Pinto, Corporation Bank General Manager who was present as a chief guest, said to be a seminarian is a challenging job in the present times and added it involves lot of sacrifice and struggle.

A book entitled ‘U Turn’, written by Jo C Siddakatte, was released on the occasion.   Kittall Yuva Puroskar winner Wilma Bantwal who presented a brief review of the book said “ It is a must read book for everyone. We can call this book neither a poem nor a novel. But Jo.C Siddakatte has  tried to mirror the society.” Continuing, she said the author has only said the half truth while the rest is for us to understand.

Later, the drama ‘Kudro’ written by Jo Siddakatte and directed by John M Permannur was staged.
Hilda Goveas, Assistant Administrative Officer was the guest of honour. Fr Stephen Pereira, Editor, and Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves , Provincial Superior  were also present.
