A collision between a government bus and a car occurred on Sunday, March 17, at Bambila on the Bantwal-Beltangady National Highway, resulting in serious injuries to the car driver.

The injured driver, identified as Cyril D’Souza from Madhwapalke in Kavalpadur village, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

The accident took place when a bus traveling towards Beltangady collided with a car heading towards Vagga near the turn close to Bambila Bridge. The impact caused the car’s front to be wedged under the bus, resulting in severe damage. Emergency responders successfully rescued the car driver from the wreckage, and he was swiftly transported to the hospital by locals using a private ambulance.

Despite sustaining a broken leg, Cyril survived the ordeal.

Subsequently, onlookers held the bus driver accountable at the scene. Bantwal Traffic Sub-Inspector Suthesh and Bantwal Rural Police Station Sub-Inspector Harish visited the site for inspection.

Local residents expressed discontent over the frequent accidents at the spot, citing unscientific diversions during highway development as contributing factors. Traffic Sub-Inspector Suthesh assured that he would advocate for necessary measures to improve road safety in the area to the highway authorities.
