Udupi: As a part of “World Glaucoma Week” Prasad Netralaya, Bharathiya Vydhyara Sangha and Association of working journalist together organized a free campaign at Prasad Netralaya on Friday March 14.

Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage in the eye’s optic nerve and gets worse over time; moreover it is known that if a person loose vision due to Glaucoma there is no scope of treatment.
The increased pressure, called intraocular pressure, can damage the optic nerve, which transmits images to the brain. If damage to the optic nerve from high eye pressure continues, Glaucoma will cause permanent loss of vision. Without treatment, Glaucoma can cause total permanent blindness within a few years. There is no cure for this decease, though prevention is the only remedy.
It’s often associated with a buildup of pressure inside the eye. Glaucoma tends to be inherited and may not show up only above 40 years. In our country 20 lakh people loose vision because of this decease and they hardly know the reason behind it.
Kiran Manjanbail, president of press association, Dr Ashok President of Bharathiya Vydhyara Sangha, Dr Chinnappa, Rashmi Krishna Prasad and others were present.
