Belthangady: By-elections in two grama panchayats for the three vacant posts in the taluk will be held on May 29.

By-elections will be conducted for two posts in Ujire grama panchayat and one post in Koyyuru grama panchayats. By-elections in Ujire will be held in ward number 4 where the former member had resigned and in ward number 11 where the former member died. In Koyyuru, by-election will be held in ward number 2 where the post was vacant due to the death of the former member.

The DC will be sending the by-election notification today and filing of nomination would start soon. The last day to file the nomination would be May 16. Scrutiny of the nominations will happen on May 17 and May 20 would be the last date to withdraw nominations. Voting would be held on May 29 and counting of the votes would be held on May 31.

Model code of conduct would be imposed in the grama panchayat limits from May 13 to 31. Earlier Model code of conduct was restricted to the concerned wards where the by-elections were taking place but now the entire grama panchayat would be covered under the model code of conduct.
