Bangalore: With trouble erupting in Andhra Pradesh over the announcement of the Telangana state, bus services between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh has been affected.

Both the state-run APSRTC and KSRTC have cancelled their services. The KSRTC, which operates over 500 buses to AP, said ticket fares had been refunded to commuters who had booked tickets. “On Wednesday, we operated buses up to the border such as Gouribidanur, Mulbagal, etc. We cancelled services beyond that and have refunded the fares to the commuters,” said KSRTC Chief Traffic Manager Ashok Kumar.

About 30 KSRTC buses operating out of Andhra Pradesh are stuck in that state because of the curfew, he added. However, after learning that the situation was tense only in some areas, KSRTC resumed services to places like Tirupati, Chittoor, Kalahasti and Nellore, he said.

KSRTC has not assessed the losses because of cancellation of trips. Over 20,000 commuters travel using KSRTC services, said KSRTC MD Manjunath Prasad.

However, some private operators continued bus services to Andhra Pradesh. Ramananjaniah of SRS Travels said they operated bus services to Andhra as usual. “We operate about 20 buses to AP. We scheduled our services in such a way that our buses reached AP before 6 am, when the curfew began,” he said.
