Bus-lorry collision near Shiroor : 50 injured

Bhatkal : An accident involving a  bus and a lorry left over 50 passengers injured  near the Shiroor Bhatkal border on August 25, Sunday.

The Durgamba bus was carrying as many as 60  trainees from the  Syndicate Institute of Bank Management Manipal. The mishap took place when they were returning to Manipal after a daylong trip to Murdeshwar.  The bus rammed into a stationed lorry from the rear  after the driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle.

The injured are from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan and other states. The condition of four of them is said to be critical. They have been admitted to hospitals in Manipal and Kundapur.

Twenty two other trainees who too were on a Murdeshwar trip were returning by another mini bus. Bhatkal rural police have registered a case.
