Bantwal :  An incident wherein a bus conductor who allegedly misbehaved with a lady passenger was thrashed by members of the general public has been reported from Melkar Junction here on September 12, Thursday morning.

It is learnt, Mohammad, the  conductor of a rural service private bus operating on the Mangalore-BC Road route  had misbehaved with the  passenger who slapped him out of anger. Soon after, the woman’s husband who was sitting on the back seat forced the conductor to alight from the bus. Even other passengers in the bus and public joined hands in giving Mohammad a good thrashing.

The local police who rushed to the spot,  took the conductor into custody and admitted him to the hospital.

The husband of the  woman  later told reporters that the conductor used to subject his wife to physical and mental torture since some time by even visiting the Anganavadi where she worked. He also revealed that his wife had even attempted suicide out of frustration a few days back.

It is also being alleged that he had  harassed a few other women in the bus  in the past.
