Blackmailers demanded 30 lac from NRI

Kasargod, May 20: Two accused in connection with the blackmailing of an NRI were arrested on May 20.

The prime accused in the case, Ahmed Owais (22) from Parekatte and K H Samina (25) of Mangad were arrested while travelling in an auto rickshaw after the police received definite information about their whereabouts.

It is said that altogether nine people were involved in the blackmailing incident.

Abdul Rahman alias Annan (32), a resident of Pallikere, Harshad (25) and Naseeda (32) of Trikkaripura were arrested on April 25.

The blackmailers demanded 30 lakhs from the victim and threatened to upload his nude photographs with a woman on social media if he fail to satisfy their demands.

The victim hails from Kanhangad and his number was somehow obtained by the gang, and a woman among them started calling him and developed a friendship. She then reportedly invited him to meet her, and on April 24, he was taken to a deserted house at Kasargod Chowki, where Rahman, Harshad and others forcibly undressed him and clicked his photographs with the woman.

As he did not have that much money, they took away Rs17,000 in cash, his expensive phone and a watch.

They told him to pay Rs 9 lac by night and saying that he would meet them at the bus stand with the money, he escaped from the spot and filed a complaint with the police.

The police who took immediate action arrested Rahman, Harshad and Naseeda.The police team was led by Kasargod circle inspector T Jacob. Sub-inspector Ratan Kumar, police personnel Balakrishnan, Laxminarayanan Nair, Narayanan Nair and Sumesh participated in the arrest operation.
