Mangaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee is chalking out plans to corner the ruling BJP in the state during the eight-day sessions of the state legislature, starting September 21.

Speaking about the same, KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed told reporters in Mangaluru that the Congress legislative party (CLP) will meet on Wednesday in Bengaluru and formulate the party’s strategy to confront the BJP government in the short 8-day session of the state legislature.

“We have identified issues ranging from mismanagement of handling of the pandemic in the state to the riots in Bengaluru, and legislations that the government brought in the form of ordinances,” he said adding that the party has already submitted more than 1300 questions to the government and that the Congress party is also determined to foil the government’s bid to push through 28 bills that it has listed in the agenda without proper discussion.

“The forthcoming session will be stormy and serious and will see Congress come out strongly against the government. We will stress and pressurize the BJP government for discussion on all the above issues as well. The government is yet to respond to a request from former CM Siddaramaiah to extend the session by 10 days since the short session is a ploy to get the concurrence of the legislature for the bills,” he alleged.

Speaking about the ongoing drug scandal in the state, specifically revolving around the Sandalwood, Ahmed said that the government does not have a concrete, holistic plan and the complete lack of co-ordination in dealing with the issue is evident.

He further added that the BJP government is yet to respond to the allegations made by the Congress with regard to the large scale misappropriations running into Rs 2,000 cr in the purchase of medical equipment for COVID patients.

While maintaining that the government has miserably failed to provide succor to the people of Karnataka, who were hit by the deluge last year as they continue to suffer due to the monsoon this year, Ahmed said that the BJP MPs who strut around like tigers in the state, become purring cats in Delhi, having no courage to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi for funds to handle the flood crisis.

“They have failed abjectly to highlight issues of Karnataka in Delhi,” he said.

Several Congress Party leaders including MLA U T Khader, former MLC Ivan D’Souza, DK Congress President Harish Kumar, corporator Naveen D’Souza, Congress Youth leader Mithun Rai, and Manjunath Bhandary, were present at the press meet.
