Udupi : Misunderstanding and chaos prevailed in the City Municipal Council monthly meeting as the opposition BJP members raised objection over the hike in trade license tariff and displayed Red placards against the Congress government on Friday February 28.

Opposing the renewal of revised trade license tax, opposition councillor created a clutter following which Yuvraj, CMC President postponed the meeting.
Retorting to a query, the CMC President said that the issue is mentioned in the supplementary agenda and can be discussed after the question hour. He also added that it was the district administration’s decision to hike the tariff and the ruling party in the house should not be held responsible.
Before reviewing the agenda, in the question answer hour, opposition councillor M R Pai highlighted the issue and said that CMC has no right to take any decision in this regard. It is conflicting to the law as well as the public interest, he argued.
On the other hand the Congress members clarified that the decision was taken by DC and not by the CMC.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA asserted that as the Congress manifesto has assured there will not be any revision of tax for next three years.
Amrutha Krishnamoorthi, Vice President of the CMC was also present and said the BJP members were only doing a publicity stunt.
However, the BJP members continued to interrupt the President and started shouting slogans demanding immediate clarification. The BJP members were in no mood to listen to the version of the President and the Commissioner.
Lastly even after the assurance given by MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj that the trade license tariff will not be hiked and the previous tariff amount will be continued the meeting was frenzied forcing the President to adjourn the meeting.
