Mangaluru: “One must try and be generous. Even when he is making a living, his endeavours to reach out to the less fortunate and the needy must continue,” said MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the scholarship distribution programme by the Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates Charitable Trust (BDNE) on Sunday, August 14 at Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra, Kudroli.
As many as 15 persons received the aid for medical help, 22 achievers were felicitated and as many as 210 students were given scholarship worth Rs.15.69 lakhs. The applications for scholarships have been scrutinized by the members of Sri Guru Charitable Trust by visiting individual aspirant’s house. The association has been distributing scholarship since 2001 and has distributed Rs 1.2 crore worth help to various beneficiaries.
Poojary said that there should be no politics in proving basis amenities to people. He recalled the times of former chief minister Devaraj Urs, whose work reflected service.
“The times have changed and social inclusion has happened in a big way. There were times when only educated classes like the doctors, advocates engineers and the Chartered Accountants could send their children to pursue higher education. Today even last man standing can imagine doing that,” he said adding that this was possible largely because of the people who went abroad, who generously gave back to the society in one way or the other, mainly lending a helping hand to the poor and the needy in the field of education.
This is what the Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates are doing. Those students who have accepted scholarship today will have to sincerely work hard and come up in life, so that they can strengthen the helping hands, he said.
While making an introductory speech, Jitendra Suvarna, former president of Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates said, the need of the present day is wisdom in students, and that wisdom should shape their career.
Billawa Maha Mandal Jaya C Suvarna, Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates office bearers Sudhakar Poojary and Vasanth Thumbay and others took part in the programme.
