Mangaluru: No holiday has been declared by the district administration for the schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada following a nation-wide bundh called by several trade unions.
Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesha asserted that holidays cannot be declared for protesrs. The district administration has made security arrangements for school vans bringing children to schools and those students having difficulty in reaching schools in the absence of buses have been asked to stay back at home.
Meanwhile, even as the DC has not declared holiday, several private organisations have decided not to function on Friday.
The nation wide Bandh has been called by All India Road Transport Workers’ Union and others against the newly proposed Road Transport Safety Bill by the central government. The protesters allege that the bill proposes hefty fine on traffic offenders and others. The union called the bill as “anti workers bill,” which by and large affects the daily chores of common man’s life. Other unions like goods and public transport, auto-rickshaw drivers’ associations, private transport unions and others too have extended their support for the bandh.
