Mangalore: A UGC sponsored national seminar on “Effectual disaster management in India with special reference to Dakshina Kannada” was organized at Besant college auditorium on Tuesday December 17.The seminar was held in association with the District Administration.







KA Dayananda, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate inaugurated the seminar. In his address he said, “The general public must recognize their duties and responsibilities towards the society and cooperate during disasters; they must help the system for the system to help them.”
The key-note address was delivered by Dr Kasi Sekar, who is the professor of Psychiatric Social Work at NIMHANS, Bangalore. He enlightened the students on the subject. The function was presided over by Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy,President of Women’s National Education Society.
The seminar covered topics such as Earthquake – its impact and implications, disaster management in sea, Disaster management in mitigation and many other subjects. Manjunatha Prasad COO of Brigade enterprises ltd also shared his view on the occasion.
The event was compered by Roshal Coelho and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Satish Shetty, the HOD of the History Department.
As part of the seminar, an onsite mock drill will be held at the Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers premises.
