Mangaluru: Though heavy rains have wrecked havoc in the lives of people in Belthangady taluk this year, the rain statistics reveal a fact that may need some attention from authorities.

The statistics show that Belthangady taluk has not yet received its average normal rainfall but is scarred by the rain’s fury.

It can be noted that several bridges in Belthangady taluk were destroyed and scores of families have been displaced by the flood this year.

Though district administration has constructed temporary bridges, there is a challenge to build permanent bridges in those areas. Even though incessant rain caused such heavy damages to Beltangady taluk, the taluk received less rainfall when compared to the last year.

Belthangady taluk should receive 4396 mm rainfall till October 24, but, it has received only 4341.8 mm rainfall till October 24. This figure shows that Belthangady is running short of 54.2 mm rainfall. The taluk had crossed the 5819.8mm average rainfall mark last year.

Though Mangaluru, Bantwal and Sullia taluks have crossed the normal average rainfall this year, rain-related damages are very less when compare to Belthangady taluk.
