Mangaluru: Bharath Electronics Limited (BEL) handed over 11 ventilators for District Wenlock Hospital on Friday, September 23 at the RAPCC building of the hospital.

The programme was inaugurated by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Shantharam Shetty.

Addressing the gathering BEL Director Dr M L Shanmukh said that Wenlock serves seven districts including Kasargod and is a very reputed hospital in the state. He said that despite being a public sector company, the BEL reserves Rs 28-30 crore towards socially oriented programmes across the country every year. 

“Since our motto is to reach the poorest of the poor, helping Wenlock Hospital will serve our purpose,” he said.

Dr Shantharam Shetty recalled his association of about 35 years with Wenlock hospital and said that it gives him great satisfaction when a poor person walks up to him and says that he had treated him several years ago.

Former deputy speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Yogish Bhat, directors of BEL, Natraj Krishnappa, Veeresh D, president of the city’s Lions Club Valencia, Lioness Sumalatha Suvarna, Lion Naveenchandra Suvarna and others were present.

The donation was co-ordinated by Lions Club Valencia in the city.
