Mangaluru: “Modi, Modi where is this Modi! The government is nothing but a cheat”, said B M Bhat addressing a protest rally held by Dakshina Kannada Beedi Workers’ Association led by CITU on Thursday July 23.

Slamming the Central and the State government over their ‘anti-poor’ approach B M Bhat said, “When we beedi workers fight for our right, no person from the RSS or VHP come to our aid. Neither the BJP government nor the Congress is bothered, both have completely ignored the Beedi workers in the state”, he added.

He further said that the Congress always helps the minority population, majority of women are into beedi making, why doesn’t the Siddaramaiah government do something for the welfare of these women, he questioned.

Earlier a procession was taken out from Town Hall to the DC’s office. CPI (M) leader Vasanth Achaar and CPI (M) Lokayya Shetty also addressed the gathering. Balakrishna Shetty and a large group of beedi workers participated in the protest.
