Beary Sahithya Academy gives groceries to underprivileged artistes

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy distributed grocery kits to 100 selected underprivileged Beary artistes on Friday, April 17.

Each grocery kit comprised grocery items worth Rs 1,300 and was quite enough for a family to live comfortably for at least a month.

Symbolically disbursing the grocery kits to an artiste’s family, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “The Beary Sahitya Academy is doing a wonderful job by helping artistes who are in distress due to the lockdown. All Academies should come forward to do this kind of work and assist those who are really struggling now.”

Zilla Panchayat president Meenakshi Shanthigodu said,”Some associations doing charity work only for name’s sake only. However, the Beary Sahithya Academy has disbursed grocery items with all essential commodities and it is quite enough for a month.”

Beary Sahithya Academy President Raheem Uchil said, “Literature will flourish only if the writers, poets and artistes are in a good position. As many artistes are struggling during the lockdown, we decided to extend our helping hand through this small gesture.”

Beary Academy officials and members also assisted in the distribution of grocery kits to the struggling artistes.
